News

It’s a new year and this is the Winter edition of the HRI Newsletter. 2009 has started off with a bang as the UK was inundated with snow, freezing temperatures and thoroughly wintry conditions. This has caused the usual mayhem around the country: in London on one day of particularly heavy snow the buses were cancelled – this didn’t even happen during the war! Thousands of people couldn’t make it to work and all the parks around the UK were the scenes of snowball fights, tobogganing races, a spot of skiing and snowboarding and the usual spectacle of lumpy snowmen galore.

Credit crunch

As well as the seasonal weather, the credit crunch has really made an impact on the United Kingdom as it has around the world. The banks have really dropped us all in it, interest rates and house prices have plummeted and things are generally looking pretty grim. There have been dire warnings from assorted economic experts and doom mongers of course; the fact is that NHS funding is guaranteed until the year 2011 and after that, it’s anyone’s guess. However, the credit crunch has not had a hugely noticeable effect on healthcare just yet you will be pleased to hear. In fact, hospitals are still hiring healthcare professionals and there seems to be something of a skills shortage in certain areas. More about this below but if you are toying with the idea of trying something different in 2009, either changing jobs, towns or even countries, now is the time to find out what HRI Ltd has to offer and get yourself over here. We can set up interviews by telephone or video conference and arrange for job offers before you even hit the UK. Some hospitals will even pay for your airfare so it is certainly worth seriously thinking about. We look forward to hearing from you very soon.

Private hospitals

We’re always banging on about the National Health Service in this newsletter and with good reason. It is the largest employer in the UK, the European Union and the third largest in the world! Because of this, the NHS is never out of the news media and as its finances are controlled by the government and we the taxpayers fund it, any decisions taken about its future direction are of prime interest to all of us. However, it is not the only healthcare employer in the UK so perhaps it’s time we devoted some attention to the alternative to NHS treatment, the private sector.
There are many different private hospitals in the UK offering all sorts of treatments, both emergency and elective. For years they have worked in partnership with the NHS to help relieve waiting lists to meet set government targets and to offer an alternative to NHS patients in these days of improved choice. HRI Ltd has many clients in the private sector, a lot of whom are looking for staff so we thought we might just introduce the idea of an alternative to the NHS for those of you from outside the UK interested in exploring all possible opportunities for employment. Private hospitals offer lots of benefits to employees and the same doctors work across both NHS and private sites so there is not really much of a difference between the two in terms of remuneration and working conditions.

URGENT!

If you are a radiographer with experience in general x-ray, ultrasound, CT and/or MRI we would also love to hear from you. Similarly, if you know people who may be looking to move on but are not lucky enough to be on the HRI Ltd newsletter mailing list, please feel free to forward this email on!
